Global Community Campus

The online global community campus is administered by Jane Addams Institute and their UK university partners. The integrated campus is hosted and accessed online through its website which provides ease of access and complete security for students, faculty, and all restricted activities through personalized accounts. Getting around the global campus is designed to be fast, secure, and more convenient than that of any comparable residence university. The partnership offers the only higher education institution in the US, the UK, in Europe, or overseas having a fully developed online campus for global students with all of the activities and services of a resident university.

This innovative and pioneering campus brings the entire university experience, including social and cultural activities, online to enrich each student’s academic life. Jane Addams is committed to the development of multicultural appreciation and engagement in an academic global community environment. The global community campus is a complete online environment with libraries, museums, event centres, a cultural centre, a recreation centre, a student union and much more. This is a highly marketable addition to academia in the increasingly competitive world of online distance education. The provision of a sense of community to distance and online students is also a requirement of the QAA for electronically offered certificate and degree programs.

The online global community campus is designed to reach all members of the academic community in a readily available, cost-effective, and inclusive academic context. It provides platforms to foster student, staff, and faculty interaction, collaboration, and engagement within the academic community by leveraging technology. It will extend the social dimension beyond the traditional residential campus to a media-rich online environment and provide a safe and secure context for a highly scalable self-organizing system of activities for the global online higher education community. Its activities, events and platforms provide ample space for student and faculty-generated content, awards, and recognition.

The online global community campus is also designed to contribute to the overall experience of its academic and support community. It is designed to pro-actively engage new and existing students, staff and faculty through a widening participation agenda and a rich diversity of engaging academic and social activities. The global community campus joins the institutional infrastructure of academic and online computing, enterprise-level networks, targeted Internet resources and activities, and the inclusion of platforms for user-generated content. It models the design, development, and implement of an evidence-based and empirically informed technological model for sector-wide student-cantered, distance and online higher education.
